30. Lonely
Mia
Three Years Earlier
“What the hell is your problem Mia?”
“I know! I'm so sorry Raynese. I don't know what happened. One minute I was getting ready to leave the house to meet you at the community center and the next thing I know I was waking up hours later. It's like sometimes I can't keep my eyes open. I don't know what's wrong with me.”
Raynese kept walking refusing to speak to me. After a few minutes of ignoring me, she decided to speak.
“ Well you really need to get that shit together because it's rude as hell and this is like the third damn time you've pulled that shit on me. It's getting real old. I mean if you just want to hang out with Jeremiah, just say so. I'd understand but don't just stand me up and have me waiting for you like an idiot. I could have hung out with someone else.”
I felt like crap.
“Raynese! You know I'd never leave you hanging for a guy. If it makes you feel any better, he gave me the same speech two days ago! My ass been passing out asleep when I've had plans with him too,” I said snickering.
“Well your ass need to go get a damn case Red Bull energy drinks or some shit then,” Raynese said finally breaking out into a real laugh. We continued walking to school and I finally was able to relax. I'd tried downplaying the situation in front of Raynese but honestly, I was worried. Both her and Jeremiah were complaining to me about becoming the queen of broken promises as of late. I had no idea what the hell was going on. One minute I'd be doing things around the house making plans with Raynese or Jeremiah, the next thing I knew it was four hours later and I was waking up from a deep sleep. I'll tell my mom about it. Maybe I need to go for a checkup. I mean damn, I was almost 18 and what the hell? Did I have narcolepsy now?
My cell phone alerted me of a text and I opened my purse to retrieve my phone, Raynese and I had just made it onto school grounds.
“Can I pick you up for lunch today? Or will you be asleep?”~J
“Yes! I'm awake and can't wait to see you. 11Am sharp.” ~M
I smiled and threw my phone back in my purse.
“I won't be around for lunch today Raynese. That was Jeremiah asking if we could hook up for lunch, if I wasn't asleep,” I told her laughing.
“Ummhmm. A nigga gotta check on shit like that with your ass! I'll see you in 4th period then girl.”
“Bye,” I said waving. I couldn't wait to see Jeremiah in a few hours I thought smiling as we entered the building and I headed straight for my locker. He'd been helping me stay sane these past few weeks in my house with Quinton and my mom. After the one night she'd told me she hated me, it was odd.
